PRODUCT INFORMATION
Hot-rolled coil is produced by rolling steel at around 1,000 °C down to the required thickness and coiling the strip as it leaves the mill; the coil form is an advantage in transport and storage, it is levelled on a cut-to-length line into sheets of the required length, and slit into strip of the required width. It is economical in thin gauges and large areas compared with plate; with its strength and workability it is used in construction, automotive, shipbuilding, machinery and heavy industry, and in structural steel components, tube and section production. Our stock holds the structural grades S235JR, S275JR, S355JR and S355J2+N; the J2 suffix guarantees impact toughness at −20 °C and +N denotes normalised delivery. Flatness and edge quality of sheet cut from coil depend on the levelling capability of the line; specify a flatness tolerance for parts to be laser or plasma cut. Where flatness, forming quality and a uniform surface are required, coil is delivered temper-rolled (skin-passed) on request; the light reduction improves flatness, removes yield-point elongation and prevents stretcher marks during bending.
