PRODUCT INFORMATION
About box profile
Hollow section is a closed square or rectangular tube profile made by forming hot- or cold-rolled strip and welding it lengthwise. The closed section is far stiffer in torsion than open profiles and gives higher bending and torsional strength at the same weight; its four flat faces make connections and cladding easy and look clean in exposed structures. Cold-formed hollow sections (EN 10219) serve thin-wall and light work, hot-finished sections (EN 10210) structural work needing thick walls and sharp corners; they are preferred for machine and bench frames, structural steel and roof trusses, railings and stairs, vehicle-mounted equipment, racking and warehouse systems, and architectural and furniture fabrication. Use hollow sections where torsion acts and members connect on four sides; under plain beam loads an I section is more economical. Outdoors, use galvanised or end-capped fabrication; in thin walls use bolt plates instead of tapped holes.
